Room

From around 10 until 12 tonight I tidied up my room. I still need to sweep it, but it’s much better. All those eftpos dockets, yellowing park ‘n’ spend receipts and studylink letters are now in the bin.

I’m going to ask the flatmates if I can move one of the couches that is never used into my room, then it will be ultimate.

It’s already quite a cool room. I have a queen sized bed with egyptian cotton sheets, two slim tower bookshelves, a huge I Robot movie poster (3m x 1.5m) (which I need to change to a better movie), a small computer desk, a swivel chair, a metal grill shelf, an open fireplace, a clothes chest and a small set of cupboards. Add a sofa to the mix (in front of the fireplace) and I don’t think it could get much better.

Actually a TV would make some difference, but only for movies and video games. I think I’ll just wait until I get a new computer with a big screen instead of a TV.

I hope I didn’t keep my flatmates up while I was cleaning, I was being quite noisy.

Edit: We got hot water back a couple of days ago! Something was wrong with the relay or regulator or something.

Music

I’m going to go all touchy-feely for a moment and talk about music.

I love music.

Unfortunately I have a tendancy to overplay particular songs and bands and use up their usefulness. It just happens that way.

I have broad tastes. I don’t think I can say I ‘hate’ a particular band or genre. I’ve have friends that can’t stand certain bands (cough Creed cough) and I can understand why. It’s about emotional connection. Certain things happened when you were listening to something or it was someone else’s favourite music and the music is associated with these emotions.

The only type of music I don’t like is non-melodious music (Sonic Youth I’m looking at you even though I have 22 of your albums) and you can argue whether this is music anyway.

I have emotional ties to a few pieces of music, but not that many. Most of my appreciation for music is just listening to it, predicting the harmonies, feeling the story.

I like a lot of music, some of my current favourites are (in no particular order): Slipknot, Breaking Benjamin, Salmonella Dub, Cornerstone Roots, Peeping Tom, Doro, Insane Clown Posse, Mattias “IA” Eklundh, Rammstein, Rob Zombie, System Of A Down, Natasha Bedingfield, Fischerspooner, Kora, Katchafire, God Is An Astronaut, Ladytron, Aether, Ani DiFranco, Aphex Twin, Bass Camp, Bjork, Massive Attack, Portishead, Candlebox.

What really gets me is that if I listen to a song enough I will eventually really like it. At work I picked up Aether, God Is An Astronaut and Peeping Tom through this ‘music’ osmosis.

I’m not sure where I was going with this, but I didn’t get there. Unfortunately I don’t have any more to say at this time. Perhaps tomorrow.

Things I'm doing at Uni

This semester at uni I will be programming:

A digital library
A sheet music image recognition program
A 3D renderer of bezier splines from scratch
A currency indicator thing with JavaBeans

And other things I haven’t yet found out about.

GAH! Apart from the 3D renderer this isn’t cool games.

Also through some cruel twist of fate (and some fruity paper choices on his part) Alex is in all my classes yet again.

Someone keep's stealing my letters!

Someone keep’s stealing my letters

Well for some reason embedding it didn’t work, but you can still visit the very funny site. Basically you have a board full of letters and everyone can drag them around. Watch out for the dreaded corner theif.

Update - 7/7/2006

Ah right, so blogging…

I’m back at uni for this semester. I feel that I should finish my degree with upmost urgency so I can get on with other things. Working has given me enough motivation to continue and hopefully apply myself and do well.

I’ve been working a bit on voodoo, some nights after work but not as much as I hoped. I’ve left the virtual machine for a little while and I’ve written a ‘meta parser’ that just parses the classes, interfaces, states and their methods and properties. This generates some xml which I’m about to load up in the virtual machine and check to see if it links and is working from that perspective. Then I will either work some more on the vm making it more complete, or do some more work on the compiler actually parsing the code this time.

While I’m writing this I realise that my chair sucks. It was cheap from the warehouse and has terrible back support. Unfortunately I don’t know what to do as I’m now a student and can’t really spash out on an expensive chair.

Our hot water cynlinder is fu fu. I’m not sure what’s up, all I know is no hot water comes out anymore. I’ve emailed the landlord, but haven’t received a reply yet. Time to phone.

I am addicted to Juicies. Expecially the apple ones.

I upgraded my 120gb external to a 300gb external. It’s been full since I bought it.

I found Chang’s Blog, not sure if I knew about it before, but it’s now linked. Also Alex has just integrated wordpress into his website very easily as I understand.
